Outside In: Painting Workshops

The sessions offer light, hands-on activities that are creative, sometimes eco-friendly and always designed to help you recharge. We turn our longing for nature, especially felt during the autumn and winter months, into an opportunity to get creative and find inspiration in unexpected places.

This series is for anyone who needs to slow down, take a break and experience something real - away from screens and notifications. No special preparation or skills are required; all you need is curiosity, an open mind and a willingness to spend time in a welcoming environment.

MEADOW

Our handmade paper workshops are back! This time, we’ll use not only recycled paper but also dried leaves and flowers to make our paper, giving plant materials a second life. We’ll use colored paper pulp to create colorful compositions inspired by the autumn garden at the museum and our own impressions of nature.

FOREST

We’ll turn the grey November days into an opportunity to look at nature from a different perspective, focusing not on colors but on interesting textures and materials. Using branches, pine needles, cones, stones, and other natural materials, we’ll create our own painting and drawing tools. We’ll experiment with their shapes, textures, and the marks they leave on paper, creating artworks full of unexpected forms and imagery.

Workshop programme:

  • Meeting point outside ms¹
  • Travel to Łagiewnicki Forest by hired vehicle
  • Collecting natural materials to make painting tools
  • Tea break
  • Painting on easels using our handmade tools, experimenting with unusual shapes and textures
  • Group presentation of the artworks
  • Return by hired bus to ms¹

Please note: The workshop takes place in Łagiewnicki Forest. Please bring your own food and warm clothing. Materials and tea will be provided.

SNOW

Longing for the first snowfall, which may never arrive outside our windows, we’ll immerse ourselves in the white and quiet world of winter landscapes. We’ll create relief artworks, three-dimensional compositions that evoke the softness and delicacy of snow. We’ll learn how to create striking textures and flowing, organic shapes using various media, from professional tools to materials readily available at home.

FLICKERING LIGHT

Changing light, the movement of a vehicle, and blurred landscapes will become our artistic challenge. Instead of working at a traditional, stationary workstation, we’ll observe the changing scenery through the windows of a moving vehicle. We’ll try to capture its key features in short, dynamic sketches, exploring our own ways of representing movement.

Workshop programme:

  • Meeting point outside ms¹
  • Travel by hired vehicle
  • Distribution of materials and sketching during the journey, using the changing landscape outside the windows as inspiration
  • Arrival at Stawy Stefańskiego and a tea break
  • Free creative activity: transferring a chosen sketch onto a wooden board
  • Group presentation and discussion of the artworks
  • Return by hired bus to ms¹

Please note: The workshop takes place at Stawy Stefańskiego. Please bring your own food and warm clothing. Materials and tea will be provided.

THE SCENT OF HERBS

How can herbs be used in contemporary art? We’ll discuss the colors hidden in nature, how to extract them, and how to create art harmonizing with the environment. We’ll then prepare our own aromatic blends according to our preferences. Our challenge will be to translate the impressions evoked by these scents into images.

AWAKENING

In March, the landscape lies somewhere between winter and spring. During this outing, we’ll observe these subtle changes and look for inspiration for our own creative work. We’ll make sketches and short visual impressions inspired by the landscapes we encounter. An important part of the process will be capturing the atmosphere of each place, the changing light, and the first signs of new growth in nature.

Workshop programme:

  • Meeting point outside ms¹
  • Travel by hired vehicle to Stawy Jana, followed by a tea break
  • A walk searching for inspiration, taking photographs, and making painting sketches
  • Setting up easels and picnic blankets and distributing materials
  • Free creative activity
  • Group presentation and discussion of the artworks
  • Return by hired bus to ms¹

Please note: The workshop takes place at Stawy Jana. Please bring your own food and warm clothing. Materials and tea will be provided.

SUNLIGHT REFLECTIONS

Cyanotype is a remarkable combination of art, nature, and light, allowing leaves, flowers, and other objects to be transformed into unique compositions. Inspired by this technique, we’ll create natural golden prints using turmeric. We’ll learn how to prepare our own light-sensitive emulsion, expose our prints to light, and experiment with different materials and textures.

THE RIVER’S MURMUR

During this garden session, we’ll try to capture our impressions and emotions using watercolours and various techniques that encourage experimentation with the medium. We’ll explore how pigment spreads across paper, creating unexpected shapes. Rather than reproducing the landscape faithfully, we’ll develop our own artistic interpretations of the sounds, movement, and atmosphere of the place.

THE MOVEMENT OF GRASS

What happens when, instead of controlling every movement of our hands, we let the body guide the brush? During this garden session, we’ll create paintings using broad, flowing gestures that engage the whole body. Inspired by the rhythms of nature, our breathing, the surrounding sounds, and our own emotions, we’ll create artworks shaped not only by color but also by gesture.
