Historic houses: Herbst Palace – Das Rote Haus. Common heritage
Both institutions, Polish and German, are engaged in research on the history of the factory owners' family at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and the first half of the 20th century, in the context of historical events. The publication The Herbsts. The history of the manufacturers (published in December 2019 by Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź and the Museum of Sopot) is the result of many years of archival research conducted by the employees of the Herbst Palace Museum. Publication is the first biography of the family, which makes it possible to fill the gap in the current state of knowledge. Moreover, the results of research on the Herbst genealogy were used, among others, to prepare exhibitions at the Herbst Palace Museum, a branch of Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź: The Herbsts. Unfinished Stories and The House of Dreams. The House of Dreams exhibition was a kind of exhibition experiment, an attempt at innovative storytelling, testing new methods of reaching a modern audience. The exhibition was included in the permanent exhibition in the palace interior and was accompanied by a commentary in the form of a radio play recorded at the Polish Radio Theater with the participation of famous Polish actors.
The study visit of three substantive employees of the Herbst Palace Museum (a branch of Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź) at the Scheibler Foundation Museum Rote Haus in Monschau is aimed at conducting a discourse in the area of cultural and historical heritage, as well as exchanging experiences in presenting social history and conducting research on the history of the culture of life everyday life of the middle and upper classes. This dialogue will be supported by a film promoting the historical house - Herbst Palace Museum, a branch of Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź - encouraging the audience, including people with visual impairments, to learn about the history of the multicultural community of Łódź perceived through the prism of the fate of one of the factory owners' families. The film will be made in three versions: in Polish/German and Polish/English, and in a version with audio description.
