Turns
The exhibition Turns is the result of a meeting between students of the Władysław Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź and Cezary Bodzianowski – a performer known for “one-off” absurdist artistic activities. Bodzianowski’s artistic practice, although usually taking place outside the realms of museums and galleries, has been known to on occasion interact with the realities of art institutions. Such was the case for the art competition Spojrzenia, when the artist theatrically offered the director of Zachęta Gallery half of the possible prize money for help in winning the award (Corruption Proposal, 2003). And then there was the time when in Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź, Bodzianowski presented his own hand to be subjected to conservation work (Oxyman, 2009).
During this particular gathering for Turns, the students had the opportunity of testing the limits of Bodzianowski’s interventionist outlook by creating their own, off-kilter interactions with Muzeum Sztuki

The subsequent works created during this, the tenth such workshop organized jointly by the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź and Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź can be viewed in both the exhibition spaces and in the common and utility spaces of MS2: the lobby, cloakroom, bookstore, in the backroom of the former café, in the audiovisual room and on the stairwell. What visitors will find are material, performative and sound-based interventions, a number of which disrupt the daily routine of the museum staff and its visitors, directing attention towards either invisible work or potential recipients. Other interventions negotiate ways of generating and communicating knowledge about art. Above all, however, the titular works represent humorous searches for new directions in the process of building a museum community.
