The Themersons and the Avant-Garde
Uncompromising attitudes, love of experiment and aiming to go beyond the set patterns were chracteristic of Franciszka and Stefan Themerson’s artistic attitude.
The Themersons and the Avant-Garde is a collection of articles, richly-illustrated with reproductions of artworks and with archive materials. Among the authors who analyse the oeuvre of the artists are Paweł Polit (the curator of the The Themersons and the Avant-Garde exhibition) and people participating in the accompanying programme (Stuart Bailey, among others). The book also contains texts written by the Themersons themselves, Stefan Themerson’s collages and a screenplay of a film titled Stefan Themerson and Language by Erik van Zuylen.
