Agata Ingarden's films from The House (2018) series were created simultaneously with a series of short stories under the same title. In the mentioned texts, the artist builds a certain microcosm: a seaside residence with a garden surrounding it, where a group of vacationers indulge in repetitive entertainment, immersed in an overwhelming sense of boredom. Details in the stories recalled at the table, trivial elements of everyday rituals and seemingly unimportant events, in the environment described by Ingarden, become sensational and become overgrown with myths. Like in Witold Gombrowicz's Cosmos, boredom becomes an excuse to think and act unconventionally. Everything that was initially intended to kill time is becoming more and more serious day by day. Time itself becomes, on the other hand, something extremely relative - it isn't easy to distinguish each day from the previous one, and any novelty in the seaside remoteness from cases described in detail during one of many similar dinners. Film works from The House (2018) series are the setting for the stories told. However, man recedes into the background here; the house seems deserted, and the products of human activity constantly intertwine with what is inhuman. It is unknown whether the stories told will happen or have already left their mark on the surface of the matter.

BIO

Agata Ingarden (b. 1994 in Poland) lives and works between Paris, FR and Athens, GR. She works with multiple media and her sculptural practice expands to collaborative works combining video, performance, sound and writing. Her practice is driven by material research as well as investigations in post-humanities, sociology, science fiction and mythical narratives. Her works have been exhibited in venues such as Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2019); Frac, Île-de-France, Paris (2019); Mo.Co, La Panacée, Montpellier (2019); Künstlerhaus, Vienna (2020); MS Lodz, Lodz (2021); Art Encounters Biennial, Timișoara (2021); CAPC, Bordeaux (2022); Centro de Cultura Digital, Mexico City (2023). She will be a part of the 15th Gwangju Biennale, Gwangju, South Korea (2024). She received a Special Prize at the Future Generation Art Prize in 2021.
