- The Muzeum Sztuki has been working on improving its infrastructure for over ten years, Jarosław Suchan, the director of Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź, emphasized at a press conference. - During this time, three projects worth nearly PLN 80 million were completed: construction of ms2, revitalization of the Maurycy Poznański palace, where the Art Museum is located, and the Edward Herbst palace and park complex. Now two more projects have started: the construction of studio warehouses and the reconstruction of the Museum buildings on Gdańska Street.
On May 8, 2017, a press conference was held at the Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź regarding the commencement of the next stage of work related to the revitalization and reconstruction of the infrastructure of the Museum's headquarters at the intersection of Więckowskiego and Gdańska streets. As part of the so-called In the "smaller" project, old warehouses and technical rooms will be partially demolished and a modern Study Warehouse will be built in their place. The second "larger" project involves the reconstruction and superstructure of the building located at Gdańska 43 St.
The contractor of the project selected in the tender was Przedsiębiorstwo Budowlano-Konserwatorskie Castellum from Wrocław, Maciej Taczalski, architect of the Design Lab Architects studio in Łódź, is responsible for the revitalization project of buildings B and C (together with Marek Solnica). - Our primary goal was to adapt the building for disabled people. This involves moving the main entrance to Gdańska Street - explained the architect. Elevators will be installed in buildings undergoing reconstruction. Thanks to this, exhibitions organized in the palace at Więckowskiego street will be available, among others: for people in wheelchairs.
- After the renovation, a large lobby visible from the street through numerous glazings will invite you to the Muzeum Sztuki. From there, new circulation routes will lead guests through the various floors of the building. Thanks to the two-story glass superstructure, which will house a new library and reading room, the tenement house will be visible from everywhere on the street. Gdańsk. We also incorporated an observation deck there for guests, Taczalski explained.
Adapting the infrastructure to modern technical standards will enable educational activities and the implementation of the program accompanying exhibitions to a much wider extent than before. On the first floor there will be a multi-functional educational room with an area of over 125 sq m, and work places for the Museum's substantive departments will be located on each floor.
All renovated buildings will be equipped with new devices and furniture for the amount of approximately PLN 1.6 million. The total value of the revitalization project of the building at ul. Gdańska 43 is PLN 18,279,162.50. It was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund in the amount of PLN 12,242,057.00.
The money for the revitalization of Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź comes from EU funds and the own contribution of Muzeum Sztuki and the Marshal's Office in Łódź that manages it. Witold Stępień, Marshal of Lodzkie Region, said: The works should be completed and settled by the end of 2018.
