Józef Panfil. The Foundation of Truth
Called a painter of light, the artist has developed his own style through years of experimentation, in which both ephemerality, the source of which remains hidden, and repetitive details play an important role. Despite frequently returning to the same subjects or figures, he shows them each time from a different perspective. He never idealizes the subject of his works, but rearranges them as they are. His paintings are a remedy for the omnipresent stress, overstimulation and haste. Through contact with the paintings of the quiet, idyllic Polish countryside, the viewer has a chance to experience inner peace. Panfil's paintings also carry values concerning respect for tradition or simple life.
The artist, who takes a liking to normality, has also developed his own way of painting. Paint laid down at first glance "as it comes out," but always "where it needs to be," which is due to the artist's perfect technique. With unusual flair he lays down patches of color often very thickly, leaving a clear brush mark. Small forms dominate over large-format works, which definitely distinguishes the painter from other Polish landscape painters.
The exhibition "Józef Panfil. The Foundation of Truth" will include a collection from 1978 to 2022, which will show the timeline of the artist's refinement of his technique and the changes occurring in his objects of contemplation.
