Hearing. Listening to Hearing
Hearing by Robert Morris was created in 1972 and was exhibited in the same year at Leo Castelli’s gallery. The work consisted of: a set of furniture with surfaces made of various metals and a three-and-a-half-hour long recording of a fictitious interrogation in which the Interrogator asked the Witness, advised by his Lawyer, questions, that can be heard from the loudspeakers. All this to establish and record philosophical, political and aesthetic views of the Witness.
The book consists of two parts: the record of Morris’ work and the essay Listening to Hearing (Słuchając Prze/Słuchania) by Gregor Stemmrich, interpreting the work Hearing and looking for new contexts to read the work.
The publication accompanies the exhibition Robert Morris. Notes on Sculpture. Objects, Installations, Films.
