A fake documentary directed by Philippe Mora is a masterpiece of pure nonsense, a picture in the spirit of Monthy Python productions. Its heroine is Gertrude Stein and the principal subject is the “life after life” of the icon of the Parisian bohemian community, a friend of Picasso, Cézanne or Hemingway who, according to Mora, faked her death in 1946. The director becomes a detective seeking traces of her alleged phantom existence recorded by Hitchcock, Dali, Duchamp or Warhol in film footage.
