Form Condensation Center / Centro di condensazione della forma - Stefan Krygier

Stefan Krygier’s exhibition in Venice explores his three main works of art as a painter, architect and a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz, presented collectively as the Form Condensation Centre. The exhibition organised by Muzeum Sztuki, celebrates the artist’s 100th birthday and is the largest-so-far international display of Krygier’s lifetime work as a main Lodz avant-garde artist and a student and collaborator of Władysław Strzemiński. The exhibition presents monumental spatial compositions made of changeable component set ups (fractals). The groundbreaking idea of the compositions is based on the interactive character of ‘unrestricted interplay’ of disseminating elements, and operates utilising its accidental partakers’ sensitivity and activeness. The Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź event coincides this year with the 18th Venice Architecture Exhibition/Architecture Biennale entitled The Laboratory of the Future.

Working on the exhibition we wanted to combine Venice as the city that uses boats instead of cars with Łódź [Eng. boat] - the city that entertains exceptional cultural projects. Venice docks and its old coast of Giudecca island make an incredibly inspiring space to host exhibitions, alongside its historical boatyards and creative studios of Venice Fine Art Academy.

During Stefan Krygier’s exhibition in Venice the museum also offers, amongst others, the ‘Active Space – The Architecture of Imagination’ curator’s tour and the concert of Zygmunt Krauze – Poland’s most acclaimed avant-garde composer, the creator of metaplastic as space-and-music compositions and the author of the Unism theory in music. The concert takes place in late June on the Giudecca coast.

The exhibition ends with celebratory finissage combined with Venice’s largest festival in the Church of Redentore on Giudecca.

Form Condensation Center  - is an open spatial zone. As a set of shapes with a specific character, it is a point of reference for the corresponding form of mobile elements that can be spread outside the centre. These elements can be placed in different situations both by the author and by other people. The distributed elements of the center create the "System of Open Imagination" and "Free Play". Instead of a limited zone in visual arts, I propose a center of form condensation, the scope of which is not limited in time or space. The integral elements of the center become the property of everyone. The zone of action is constantly expanding and covers more and more situations resulting from the activity of the game participants.
