Teresa Żarnower (1897-1949). An Artist of the End of Utopia

„Teresa Żarnower (1897-1949). An Artist of the End of Utopia” is the first monographic publication devoted to the works and life of the artist. It recapitulates many years of research conducted by curators of the exhibition: Andrzej Turowski and Milada Ślizińska, presented in the Lodz Museum of Art.

The findings it presents shed a new light on the figure of one of the most radical Polish avant-garde artists. The publication unveils and arranges facts about her works and views, against a background of the culture and events of interwar Poland, and discloses Żarnówerówna’s ties with the Polish and Jewish intellectual and artistic communities. It reveals new information about the dramatic escape from Europe during World War II, and years spent in New York.

The publication of over 500 pages comprises an introduction by Jarosław Suchan, texts of Andrzej Turowski, Millada Ślizińska, Aleksandra Idzior and Magdalena Dabrowski. The second part of the catalogue features a collection of documents, a catalogue of existing and lost works, exhibitions, and a list of references, prepared by Professor Andrzej Turowski. Also noteworthy is a timeline of the tumultuous last years of Żarnower’s life (1940-1949), prepared by Milada Ślizińska.
