Exercises in Autonomy. Tamás Kaszás featuring Anikó Loránt (ex-artists' collective)
Exercises in Autonomy is a proposal to work on an ecological imagination for the future inhabitants of the Earth. The exhibition and the publication connected with it speculate about forms of collective life that will manage to survive the already initiated implosion of the modern world-system where nature is organised according to the needs of capital. The publication includes a richly illustrated catalogue of the main issues tackled by the exhibition and, at the same time, the major themes in the individual artistic practice of Tamás Kaszás and his cooperation with Anikó Loránt within the framework of the ex-artists' collective. Essays by Maja and Reuben Fowkes, Anna-Sophie Springer, Marek Styczyński, Mark von Schlegell, and Joanna Sokołowska propose new interpretations and explications of these questions. The publication is completed by the Lexicon of Archaic Terms from the book The Collapse of Western Civilization by Erik M. Conway and Naomi Oreskes – the lexicon provides its readers with tools for thinking about changing life conditions on Earth as seen from a speculative perspective of a new world-ecological formation described in the year 2393.
