Władysław Strzemiński. Readability of Images International conference on the works of Władysław Strzemiński (1893-1952)
The conference is the result of the retrospective exhibition Afterimages of Life. Władysław Strzemiński And Rights for Art presented at Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź, in winter 2010/2011. It is the first international academic session devoted to Strzemiński’s oeuvre since 1994.
Similarly to the exhibition, the conference will be a kind of a subsequent image of the work of the outstanding modernist artist. It will provide the participants with an in-depth analysis of Strzemiński’s works, aiming at revealing the multidimensional character of the solutions he proposed. The presentations included in the conference will place the artist’s work in complex historical and theoretical contexts, thus revealing the critical points in Strzemiński’s artistic practice and his theory of image. The selected works of Władysław Strzemiński will be interpreted by outstanding researchers of modernism from France, Israel, Poland, Russia, the USA and Great Britain. The conference programme has been arranged – by analogy to the structure of the exhibition – in accordance with the four thematic threads: rules of construction of a work, architectonisation of life, afterimages of death and rights for art.
