Discussion devoted to the Polish edition of the "Mnemosyne Atlas" by Aby Warburg (published by the National Centre for Culture) and a special edition of the “Kronos” journal – “Atlas of Modernity”, co-published by Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź.
The list of panellists includes: Tomasz Majewski, Professor of the Jagiellonian University, Paweł Mościcki, PhD., researcher at the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and Daniel Muzyczuk, curator at the Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź.
The first ever Polish edition of Aby Warburg’s "Mnemosyne Atlas" – one of the major works of modern thought, in particular in the field of visuality – will be an opportunity to contemplate the validity of combinatory experiments with images proposed by Warburg. His famous panels that cut across various genres, orders of quality, aesthetics, and visual practices (high and low, popular and artistic, mass and elite) have become (especially in recent years) an important source of inspiration for numerous artistic productions as well as analytical and theoretical works, including projects by Georges Didi-Huberman.
Unusual, unfinished and hard to be classified within any particular field Warburg’s work was also among inspirations for the “Atlas of Modernity” Project that has been delivered in Muzeum Sztuki for some years already mainly as an exhibition based on the Muzeum’s collection. The last stage of the "Atlas of Modernity" is the edition of "Kronos" philosophical journal prepared in collaboration with Muzeum Sztuki and focused on the reflections on the place of art and exhibition practices in modern times with the Introduction written by Jarosław Suchan, text by Daniel Muzyczuk, ms curator, and a series of translated texts. The discussion about Warburg’s oeuvre will be placed, inter alia, against the backdrop of the above mentioned edition of “Kronos” journal and “Atlas of Modernity” Project.
