Artist's Responsibilities. Lecture by Katarzyna Bojarska

The lecture is an accompanying event of the exhibition of Mirosław Bałka Nerve. Construction.
The lecture will focus on how Mirosław Bałka understands artist’s responsibilities in contemporary world and his/her duties vis-à-vis the past. The author will make an attempt to show how Bałka fulfils his responsibilities of an artist using the language of abstraction in sculpture and video figuration, numerical and verbal codes-references, space re-creation, creating symbolically charged objects but also by animating cultural life in his studio in Otwock.
Katarzyna Bojarska – assistant professor in the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) in the Culture and Literature of Late Modernity Research Group, member of Franz Kafka University of Muri. Author and translator interested in relationships among art, literature, history and psychoanalysis; translated, e.g., Susan Buck-Morss Hegel’s, Haiti and Universal History. Author of "Events after the Event. Białoszewski-Richter-Spiegelman" (Warsaw 2012). Since 2011 member of editorial team of „Teksty Drugie” bimonthly journal, co-funder of „Widok. Teorie i praktyki kultury wizualnej” journal.
