LECTURE 1: Art and Knowledge through 20th Century
Thursday, 8 Dec. 2011
duration: 3 hrs (2 hrs lecture & 1 hr discussion)

I will talk about the construction of the history of modern, postmodern and and contemporary art. My goal is to show the relationship between traditional art history and the new art history (Jonathan Harris, Griselda Pollock, Charles Harrison, Rosalind Krauss, Piotr Piotrowski, Sven Spieker and Terry Smith). I will discuss three important models: the model of history (constructing in time), model of archive (constructing in indexing structure) and model contemporary maps (reconstructing actual time and space). I'll make the difference between museums, archives and syhronic maps. It will be performed constructions of the different museums or archives: museum as artist construct, museum as curatorial project, museum as spectacl. My task is to point relations between art as practical-theory and theory as theoretical-preactice. In philosophical sense – it will be discussed differences between discourse and aparatus.

LECTURE 2: Constructing Contemporarity through contradictions, conflicts and gifts of history, archive and contemporarity
Friday, 9 Dec. 2011
duration: 3 hrs (2 hrs lecture & 1 hr discussion)

I am going to bring out discussion on contemporary art. I will ask the questions on contemporary art, on transitional art, on global art and on the art in time of crisis. It will be developed concepts of relations between contemporary art and culture. My main thesis is that contemporary art is art in time of culture. It will be discussed the questions on difference between media and postmedia art, between research art and activist art, between dematerialised art and spectacular art, between performative and representative art, between local and global art. I’ll point to comparative discussion on relations between avant-garde, neoavant-garde and contemporary art.
