A Beautiful Truthful. On the Centenary of The Birth of Stanisław Fijałkowski

The exhibition commemorating the centenary of the birth of Professor Stanisław Fijałkowski (1922-2020), an artist, student of Władysław Strzemiński and a teacher, is a joint undertaking of the Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź and the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. Works selected for it come primarily from the collection of the Muzeum, which has a large representation of them, as well as from private collectors from Łódź, the city where the professor lived and worked for over seventy years.

Forms that appear in Fijałkowski's paintings and prints are usually simple and economical, and the spatiality, or illusion, is basically the result of thoughtful divisions of the plane. Visitors are encouraged to enter into a specific kind of relationship with the painting, a personal and particularly attentive one. The message is evocative and moving as it makes reference to archetypes and symbols. The works of the artist flow from a deep spiritual focus and give visitors a sense of inner integrity. They become a vehicle that enables visitors’ encounters with themselves.
